Watch Eleanor Pollnow and Michael Cahn’s Night-of Performance
I’m an actor and an aspiring playwright. Most of my recent acting work is in theater, but I also do independent film projects, industrials, and TV and commercial work in the distant past. My short plays have been staged in small venues around Seattle, and I look forward to investing more time writing. As a parent and community volunteer, I’ve served on several boards related to arts and education.
What is your previous dance experience?
Ballet and Jazz classes were a regular part of my acting training after college, when I was living and working in NYC and the Bay Area. My dance life has waned over the years, but I still love it. At Spectrum Dance, I’ve wandered in and out of one particular teacher’s class since I was in high school.
Why are you dancing for Plymouth Housing Group?
I am lucky to have had secure housing all my life, and I want to do what I can to aid the homeless on our streets. I’ve been on the Plymouth Housing Group Board for about a year, and jumping into Seattle Dances! seems a great way to help raise funds for this worthy cause. Plus, I get to dress up and perform on stage.
Where are you going to put your Mirror Ball Trophy when you win?
Oh, somewhere understated — maybe the entry porch outside our front door, with some special colored spotlights so the neighbors can enjoy it, too.
Meet Professional Dancer Michael Cahn
Michael grew up in Santa Fe listening to the Latin rhythms of his father’s flamenco troupe. During Spanish language studies in Cuzco, Peru, he discovered salsa dance, and when he returned to the U.S. he joined every salsa class he could find. Desiring a deeper understanding of the dance, Michael traveled to Havana Cuba to study with Yaykel Parez. He studied for the next several years, traveling to Ecuador, Mexico and all over the USA to train. He has performed and competed throughout the Northwest. He and his dance partner Dana Sindona finished in the top 5 at the 2011 and 2012 Gemini Salsa championships, and he has won multiple Jack and Jill contests in Seattle.
Michael trained and competed in the Seattle Dances benefit for the last five years. Winning a mirrorball trophy in 2014 with Carol Bailey Medwell. Michael teaches at his studio, Sueños de Salsa in Fremont.
