Watch Ian Smith’s rockin’ swing dance with Deron Hayes.
What is your Day Job?
I manage the Seattle office for Hitachi Consulting, a global management and technology consultancy, and provide leadership oversight for consulting engagements with the firm’s clients.
What is your previous dance experience?
I have limited dance experience. Ten years ago my wife convinced me to take a few dance lessons to avoid embarrassing myself at our wedding reception. She enthusiastically encouraged me to participate in Seattle Dances–I think she secretly hopes that the fear of public humiliation will inspire me to improve my dance skills.
Why are you dancing for Plymouth Housing Group?
Plymouth Housing Group is a special organization that makes Seattle a better place to live and grow a family. My family has supported Plymouth Housing for many years, and I am excited to participate for the betterment of the organization.
Where are you going to put your Mirror Ball Trophy when you win?
On the mantle in my living room. I’m looking forward to having a dance party with my wife and our six-year-old son and two-year-old daughter!
Deron was introduced to social dance at age 14 while living in Munich, Germany, and danced for about 6 months before moving back to the States. She then rediscovered her love for dance in college and hasn’t looked back since. Deron has been an integral member of the Century Ballroom team since 2000 and has been teaching and performing Salsa since 2003. Recently, she has discovered a new love: West Coast Swing, and has entered multiple national competitions.
